The Building Positive, Respectful School Climates Bullying Prevention Incentive Grants provide support to districts in translating our new bullying prevention law into practice; assist schools in fostering climates that reduce bullying, make all students feel safe, and improve student outcomes; and present CLF an opportunity to partner with districts to explore promising practices (link “promising practices to that section”) in bullying prevention that can be shared across the state.

A brief synopsis of our 2011-2012 grantees’ programs:

CLF is partnering with Poudre School District to implement an innovative approach to bullying prevention at Poudre High School and Lincoln IB World Middle School. Poudre will address tensions between the district’s diverse communities by engaging and empowering youth and integrating anti-bullying methods into curriculum.

Center School District is a grantee of the CLF Bullying Prevention Initiative. Center has collaborated with Americorps and local health care facility Valley Wide to support the youth coalition in developing a school-wide anti-bullying program that will be comprehensive, youth-led, and sustainable.

CLF has provided funding to Cherry Creek School district to develop and disseminate tier II and tier III bullying prevention strategies and targeted on-the-spot intervention district-wide. Cherry Creek will also engage youth to challenge anti-LGBT bullying and help foster respectful and inclusive school climates.

Denver Public Schools is the recipient of CLF bullying prevention grant funds to establish and support Gay Straight Alliances (GSAs) throughout the district. Additionally, DPS will develop support staff training curriculum for how to support LGBT youth in schools.
