(Denver, CO) Today the Colorado Legacy Foundation (CLF) announced the award of a $250,000 grant by the Gill Foundation to support and expand bullying prevention efforts across Colorado. CLF’s Bullying Prevention Initiative currently works to advance best practices in bullying prevention in Colorado school districts as a strategy to improve school climate and student outcomes.

“The mission of the Colorado Legacy Foundation is to ensure an effective leader in every school, an effective teacher in every classroom, and healthy and engaged students who come to school ready to learn,” said Dr. Helayne Jones, President and CEO of the Colorado Legacy Foundation. “We know that it is unhealthy for students to feel unsafe at school, and we are honored by the Gill Foundation’s investment to help us create safe spaces for all Colorado students.”

CLF’s program received start-up funds from the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado and the Gill Foundation in 2010. It provides guidance, financial resources, technical assistance, and support to school districts and schools piloting bullying prevention programs to create positive, respectful school climates and empower adults and students to appropriately respond to bullying.

“The Colorado Legacy Foundation has been a leader in the effort to end bias-motivated bullying in Colorado’s schools,” said Leslie Herod, program officer at the Gill Foundation. “We value our partnership with CLF and are pleased to strengthen our investment in their work.”

The award, which provides 16 months of funding, will fund work focused on continuing the implementation of HB 1254, Colorado’s new anti-bullying legislation, as well as new efforts around equity instruction and creating safe and welcoming schools for all students.
