Denver, CO – Yesterday the Colorado Legacy Foundation (CLF) hosted a program entitled “Youth Engagement: Best Practices for a Healthy, Inclusive, and Safe School Climate.” This event is part of a statewide Bullying Prevention effort being led by the Colorado Legacy Foundation as part of their Health and Wellness initiative.

“The mission of the Colorado Legacy Foundation is to ensure an effective leader in every school, an effective teacher in every classroom, and students that come to school healthy and ready to learn,” said Dr. Helayne Jones, President and CEO of the Colorado Legacy Foundation. “It is unhealthy for young people to feel unsafe and studies have shown that close to one in five students in Colorado report being bullied. This event will showcase youth engagement strategies that address school bullying as well as promising practices currently underway.”

The event took place at the Cole Arts & Sciences Academy in Denver, and included a training on best practices in youth engagement conducted by Teens Take It On. Each of the four youth groups led breakout sessions following the training, allowing participants to learn from students about their own successful and sustainable youth engagement practices.

Attendees included educators, administrators and healthy school advocates from school districts across the state. CLF partnered with Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre; and youth from the Buffalo School District, Project VOYCE, Teens Take It On, and Rangeview High School’s No Place for Hate Program.
