More Centennial High School students are taking and passing Advanced Placement exams in English, math and science.

In 2010-2011 school year, Centennial had 226 students who took AP exams in the three subjects, up from a mere 26 who took the same college-level exams in the previous year, results from the Colorado Legacy Foundation show.

Of the 226 students — known as Bulldogs — 61 received a qualifying score of three or better, the foundation said.

Last year, only 16 Centennial students received a qualifying score.

“I’m just astounded by the results,” said Centennial Principal Tharyn Mulberry. “We knew we would have an increase based on the sheer number of students taking AP courses, but we had no idea we would do this well.”
